About Step Into Phonics A sequential phonics guide for anyone who
teaches language!
Step Into Phonics was developed by Orton-Gillingham Tutor Trainers and is an easy to use
manual that aids in the speed of lesson preparation while offering a wealth of information about
phonograms, spelling rules, syllables and nonphonentic words. This sequential guide, now in
its third edition, is an essential addition to the language curriculum for teachers, tutors,
and homeschoolers.
There are many features of Step Into Phonics that ensure it's ease of use.
Over 120 carefully sequenced lessons offering a wealth of information about the phonogram, spelling
rule or syllable being introduced.
Tactile suggestions with each lesson help the user to prepare to teach a multisensory lesson.
Each phonogram offers an alphabetical list of every word that uses that particular phonogram.
Background information about the lesson content, visual images, and tactile suggestions are provided.
The first 50 lessons offer a list of words for Auditory Discrimination, which are used to auditorially
introduce the lesson's new phonograms and lead the student to discovery of the new sound.
Sample record pages are shown in several lessons.
Lively illustrations accompany each new phonogram, offering a fun visual link between your student
and their recall of the new sound.
Comprehensive tests follow every tenth lesson and contain material that would be covered in some of
the lesson's other language areas.
Step Into Phonics is utilized as part of the course
materials provided in any CATT (O-G) certified Basic Orton-Gillingham Tutor
Training Course.
